The new way of eating like an athlete

Food in its natural state is always good since natural foods are unrefined. Fresh fish, meats, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts and various seafoods are all examples of such food. And water to drink. Food that have nourished man for thousands of generations. Food with nothing withdrawn or added which in my book will always guarantee a quality product. Which is more than one could say for meatballs, chicken burgers, french fries or frozen pizza…

Why pay more for a product that is so much less? To save time? Sure, save 15 minutes per day but in the end you´ll pay with less than perfect health and quality of life. And then what are you going to do with those 15 minutes?

In the natural way of eating the way mankind was developed you´ll have both proteins, carbs and fat. We need all three. Without that balance we would soon get tired and sick. The carbohydrates that we used for ages were complex and unrefined. Sugar, on the other hand, is a highly refined carbohydrate that only entered the human diet a couple of centuries ago.

Considering the large amount of fat and protein in our food in the human history, it´s awkward that fat has been made the enemy of ill health and obesity. Fat is essential for optimal health and is actually the key for the burning of fat in our metabolism. And fatburning rather than the constant carboloading is really the key to endurance and athletic superiority.

Protein is a key ingredient for repairing tissue and keeping our immune system at health. And as with fat dense foods; protein dense foods come packed with a high value of nutrition, i e minerals and vitamins.

And that is the key element of eating, really. Eating for nutrition rather than just eating for energy. In our ancient history of being hunters, collectors and nomads the human body was constantly moving. And we didn´t fuel ourselves with sugar, white flour or other refined carbs.

So why should we today?

When we focus on eating from a nutritional standpoint rather than from an energy standpoint we make sure that we sustain our health deposits and not only our muscles energy levels. Because eating for nutrition and health also means you´ll develop a superior fat burning as well as giving your muscles the fuel necessary for training and racing.

Cut down on breads, pastas and cereals and eat more nuts, almonds, fruits and vegetables as well as fat foods like avocado and salmon and you´ll notice a difference in your endurance. And in you health!
