“I can resist anything but temptations”! That´s a quote by the author Oscar Wilde but probably rings true for all of us to some extent. Especially when it comes to eating!
I´m typically hopeless when temptations are within arm´s reach. Whenever there´s candy, cake or anything else sweet I´ll usually have a bite or two…or ten!
Just like sweets tempt us, fastfood options like pizza, hamburgers, french fries or TV-dinners might lure us into eating less than well and even though they may be briefly satisfying these meals really make us fat, tired and sick in the long run. That´s why we can do ourselves a big favour by ridding our kitchens from these temptations and instead stock up on some high quality ingredients that will be a solid base for a variety of nutritious and tasty meals.
I have a checklist with ten great ingredients that I always have on my shopping list. This helps me to make a better choice when I´m hungry.
Babyspinach: Spinach is not only one of the healthiest things one can eat; it´s also a great base for a salad or a stirfry together with fish or meat or in an omelette. Frozen spinach also works fine; just not in a salad!
Broccoli: Just like spinach, broccoli is truly a healthy, tasty and versatile green vegetable. It mixes well with just about everything so go ahead and boil it, grill it or stirfry it or just enjoy it crunchy raw!
Avocadao: One of nature´s perfect products! Great tasting and packed to the rim with hearty fats and vitamins. Avocado is a great sidedish to every dish except cereal and porridge…
Go ahead and try your own guacamole made from avocado, garlic, lime and seasalt or whip up an egg- and avocadomix for your sandwich
Salmon: A fresh piece of salmon is great for an ovenbake or a stirfry with a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon. Like avocado, salmon is also packed to the rim with great fats and protein to boot. It´s undoubtedly one of the best things we can put on the table. With a salad or stirfried vegetables as wingpilots to the salmon, you´re heading to healthy heaven!
Almonds: This little nut is loaded with vitamins, proteins and good fats. It´s also a versatile produce that have unlimited use in everything from salads to youghurt and is probably the best option as a casual snack. Almonds will beat chips every day of the week!
Raisins: A sweet but still healthy alternative for normal candy. Raisins also go well in youghurt, salads or in your snackpack for travelling or after exercising.
Oranges: Tasty, sweet and juicy! And brimming with vitamins and antioxidants.
Pineapple: Fresh pineapple is not only a great fruit to eat as it is. It´s also a tasty and juicy complement to a chicken- fish- or meatwok or in a salad.
Eggs: Eggs can be eaten for every meal of the day and is a very good snack. Boiled eggs is actually a very practical snack with its natural package.
Oliveoil: The fats of all fats when it comes to pure quality and the first choice for cooking and salads.
If you have these ingredients at home you will always have the option to cook a tasty and healthy meal and you won´t have to find yourself driving to the nearest McDonald´s!
