With a convincing sprint Team Saxo Bank's Matti Breschel took tenth place in an approved version of the cobblestone classic of them all: Paris-Roubaix.
The team had an extremely strong riding Kasper Klostergaard in the forefront of today's long breakaway, and a perfectly organized troupe behind which for a long period of time was in a favorable position for the dreaded journey through the forest of Arenberg. In this way the Danish team created the possibility of dividing the favorite group in the side wind in an attempt to produce an even harder finale. They succeeded in doing this, but the group reassembled, whereafter Team Saxo Bank once again opened the race with Matti Breschel and Fabian Cancellara among the key holders.
But on the demanding cobblestone sections towards Roubaix, it was the Quick Step team, who drew the longest straw, as the team avoided crashes and the great favorite, Tom Boonen, could launch a crucial attack which no one was able to respond to.
