The Olympics

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I have finally recovered from the olympics. Yes, as everyone knows, this Olympics in Vancouver was the  the best ever for the  Swedish national team, with 7 medals. It all started in the best way with Kalla took gold in the 10km. But the most amazing demonstrations I will remember most is the men’s double pursuit. Where we brought back a gold and bronze after a very nice team work by all the guys. Since it was also impressive that there were so many in the troupe who performed good results!

For the waxing job we did in this championship we are really satisfied with, we were constantly in the game and did no big mistakes. During the Olympics the weather skiffted a number of times with everything from bright sunshine to rain. We were able to test a number of waxes that worked really well in several competitions! Then we had a grinding machine in place which was really good for us and our grinder Lorentz did a very good job. During the Olympics we also had a really good cooperation with the biathlon waxers, where we share the test results and made the tests together. This championship will be remembered for a longtime. But now it’s just to re-load for the end of the World Cup, already on Wednesday we go to Drammen, and then to Oslo
then finishing at home in Falun, which we hope has some really great support of lots of spectators! See you

On Friday and Saturday are the races in Canmore! Then the athletes go to Mount Washington to train there before they a few days before the first race travel up to Whistler. All waxers will from Monday be in Whistler, starting with all the preparations before the first race. We also have with us a meteorologist keeping an eye on the weather during the Olympics, we expect to receive several updates during the days. That will be an important instrument to be ready for what is to come!

Special weather

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Now it begins to approach the Olympics. Most of the athletes are now on camp in Apex. Those who are still in Sweden will be going over on Monday to Canmore, where they will compete next weekend! Weather in Whistler right now looks like it’s quite warm winds coming into the competition area. Can probably expect that there will be some special weather in the weeks that we are on site. You have to have a bit different skis prepared and to take a decision shortly before the start what to ski on! It will certainly be some excitement when you see our skiers start away before you see how it will go. The races in Canmore is only seen as a run through of what is to come. Right now our two grindmachines is packed up and installed on site in a garage in Whistler!

Easy waxing

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Now is the Swedish championships over. Many skier showed good form. It was pretty easy waxing conditions up in Piteå. With stable weather all week. Home sweet home

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Now we are finally back in Sweden after we had been out on tour for three weeks! Last weekend in Rogla was successful, with  Haag and Modin on the podium! Rogla was a new beautiful place as we were allowed to visit, Rogla is more than 1500m altitude. The courses which were really nice and cool! Specielt sprint course was perhaps one of the best on the World Cup! The last day we had really good weather with sunshine. Yes, as I said so, we are now home to the 30th before we go off road to the Tour de Ski! Will outsource some pictures from the 3 weeks we have been out and you’ll see the nice places we can visit when we are out for competitions.

Cold in Davos

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Now we have packed up all the stuff in the waxtruck, which has beginning its roll towards Rogla in Slovenia now. We’ve had some really nice but cold days here in Davos. We have been able to test the classic skis for the weekend’s races. There are currently wonderful conditions for cross-country skiing here in Davos, can really recommend a visit here. Early in the morning  we start rolling towards Rogla. Will be exciting with a whole new place, which almost no one else visited before.

/Anders Niemi

Davos is nice

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Much snow and good weather. We test a lot of skis ! Right now it’s raining but it will be colder forward to the races. Yesterday afternoon we went out on a little excursion in the mountains. It was really nice up there among the tops! Tomorrow we begin preparations for this weekend’s races

In Davos

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Three podium finishes in Dusseldorf. A really good weekend with Falk, Ingemarsdotter, Lind and Bryntesson ended up on the podium. Really fun when things are going this good! It was hot weather and little rain all the time. Now we have traveld to Davos where we will be all week and test the skis and wax up to this weekend’s races. This is an important time for us to the Olympics to try to find the best of the skis we have. It is good to have snow here but a bit hot right now but later in the week’s going to get a bit colder and more snow to come!

/Anders Niemi

Arlanda

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Sitting at theArlanda and waiting for the plane to go to Düsseldorf. This weekend will be pretty quiet. But not during the competitions, there will be quite a lot of work. We will guaranteed put the powders and add new topping between each race as it is usually very dirty snow in Düsseldorf. There is also some distance between the goal and the truck as it applies to run back to catch all the moments before the athlete shall start again! It is usually very nice races in Düsseldorf .

Cooperation

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Today, the truck started to go to Dusseldorf, they will take the ferry from Gothenburg to Kiel tonight. It is a bit special in Dusseldorf when the race goes inside the center, we have only about 30 minutes before the race on Saturday to have time to test skis and test out which wax to use. It tends to be a bit stressful and a lot of people who will try skis in a smal area and have a little time!

Yesterday began the season for the biathletes in Östersund, with great results for Sweden! We have a very good cooperation with their waxingteam, this summer we tested skis and structures together. But we are also in contact during the season to check the skis, structures and wax that works. We will certainly during the Olympics also have a close cooperation when we basically have races every other day.

Kuusamo

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Now is the weekend in Kuusamo over! The  Internet connection was bad because that I havent update until now. It was a very exciting weekend for us waxers. On Saturday, it was wet and klister conditions and most exciting it was  on Sunday when the track was frozen when until an hour before the ladies it began to rain a bit which made the tracks completely icy, which in turn meant that it was a bit tricky to find the right kickwax. Now we look forward to Dusseldorf where we go on Thursday.

The weather, however, seems to be a bit tricky  it  will be a lot of work for us. But we will be on site in Kuusamo pretty early tomorrow so we have time to make the most prepared for Friday’s test.

WOW

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Wow what a weekend! Now we are back home in Sweden after the first World Cup weekend in Beitostolen. The weather was quite variable over the weekend, on Friday it rained, on Saturday it was sunny on Sunday it was snowing a lot. Felt like we succeeded with the ski selections and with the waxing . On Sunday, it was for the classic distances no bigger problems to find the kick. However, it was not nowax conditions. Now it is just to charge the batteries forward to next weekend. Most of us waxers are  flying from Östersund directly to Kuusamo in the NextJet-plane – Swedish skiforce Nr 1.

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Now we have packed down the most of things we need for the weekend, the truck has already in the afternoon  start rolling from Östersund to Beitostolen. It’s Mats and Stefan, who had the great honor to travel with the truck. The rest of us have last day vacant home which is nice. It will be very exciting to launch again, it’s the competitions you been waiting for all summer! Looks like on Saturday could be some plus degrees and on Sunday some minus degrees and snowfall, can thus be no-wax conditions for the relay so we have to be ready with the special no-wax skis. The races will be broadcast on national television so it’s just that you are benches in front of TV `s this weekend, think we already can see some really good results from the Swedish athletes. Here we go!

Now it’s just a few days until we go to Beitostölen. This weekend, the Swedish premiere have been completed up in Bruksvallarna. Looks like we have a lot of skiers showing good shape. During the last days we make the final preparation before we travel to Beito, little details on the truck to fix and some skis to be prepared a little extra.

A Tip 5

Friday, November 13th, 2009

When you prepared your skis, mix both soft and hard parafin for best results! It provides a good base for your race waxes!

Now we can recharge the batteries before we go next week to Beitostolen. The Sprinters had a race yesterday where we were with our actives and tested skis.

Little rest

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Today, it has been a little rest today, there have falling some wetsnow today, which meant that we could try a bit nowax skis, now in the evening, we have been with the athletes and played bowling. There where few really good results. Tomorrow is a training race in classic style, can be a bit difficult to find a good gripwax due to the weather.

/Anders Niemi

Snowing

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Another day at the camp over, now we have tested a lot of skis and some gripwax. Conditions have been a bit tricky when moisture from the man made snow make the classic track icy. Now it’s snowing a lot here, can be nowax conditions tomorrow again. Tomorrow is rest day for the skiers, but we will test a bit anyway.

/Anders Niemi

Testing

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

To succeed with a klister waxing can sometimes be a bit tricky, but try and mix two different klister so you might do better!

The fun begins

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Last working day this week, so on Monday we are going  with the whole waxingteam up to Bruksvallarna to be there for testing. We will be there until 12 november. There will be ten very hard working days from early morning to late evening. On these days we’ll have time for a great deal of testing to be ready for the first World Cup in Norwegian, Beitostolen. Then we have certainly found a number of goldenpair of skis that we hope can give Sweden great success throughout the winter! Looks right now like it may be some natural snow in the first week which would have guaranteed a very good test conditions. Now the fun begins!

/Anders Niemi

A tip 3

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

When you are waxing with gripwax remember that it is also important to have a good basewax for success with the waxing. The basewax can both provide a better grip and better glide. So put down some time on the base!

/Anders Niemi

Time for some relax

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Not many days left now. It`s time to load up the Waxingtruck  full of materials in Östersund. Otherwise we  send skis across the country, ready-prepared skis sent to the truck and the whole factory new skis are sent for grinding to Funäsdalen where our grinder is always ready. Then it`s time to pick up the ski clothes again, too. And to take time for relax a bit now before the season kicks off seriously.

/Anders Niemi

A tip 2

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

When you are waxing with parafin ensure that the waxingiron is hot enough so that you basically only have to glide over the surface twice with the iron to cover it with parafin. If you have too low temperature it`s very likely that you have to cross the surface many times and this may easily happen that you burn the skis!

/Anders Niemi

Wet to very cold

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009
One week left now until the camp in Bruksvallarna, where it is planned that we will have as much testing as possible, last year we were lucky with the weather when we were there for 10 days with many different conditions ranging from wet to very cold . Hope it will be a bit colder up there this week so they can make even more artificial snow. First, we test the athletes skis then there will also be some other interesting tests, that I have big hope for.

One month left

Monday, October 19th, 2009

The days roll on fast now, there are a lot of work to do before we can start testing the new skis! The days consist of preparation of skis and some other things that need to be prepared at home before the season kicks off . Conditions  in Bruksvallarna for test is good up on Kläppen but otherwise a bit hard to get really good tests. But Stefan works on there a few more days before the camp ends with a bit of testing and service to the athletes and a bit self-training! Since the camp moved became a minibus left in Munich with a lot of skis and other materials, it has to go home this week, Mats is down there to pick it up and take the opportunity to visit some factories! The waxtruck has this weekend been in Östersund, in connection with the ski exhibition there. Mats were also having a lecture about waxing there on Saturday!

/Anders Niemi

A competition day

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

We arrive at the competition site the first thing you do is check out how the tracks look like then you go back to the truck where we might go through what to test, we begin to do the final preparation of racing skis, and helps make the system for the testskiis. Both glide and grip wax tests usually starts about two hours before the first start.

We usually get the glidetest first so that we can make the glide on skis ready, about one and a half hours before we find out about how it looks with gripwax, we usually have a waxing place close the track where we make the final  waxing then we can also get the final reports of the gripwax testpilot. Then we help the skier to test their skis and usually make a small correction before it is completely clear. Then, it is just  hope that you managed to do your job!

The Waxtruck on tour

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009
Today will the waxingtruck be on a visit to the ski trade show in Sundsvall, it is Craft who has borrowed our truck. It is our waxer Mats that will drive the truck to Sundsvall and he will also have a waxing course on location which will certainly be appreciated! Do you live in Sundsvall, you should make a visit and see how the truck looks!

Great skiing

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Our glide tester Stefan reports that there are excellent conditions in Bruksvallarna. It is possible to test new skis there! Sounds really good for us, we will wait for a few days because it’ll be a bit warmer for a few days now, before we send up more waxers. But Stefan has begun testing, including various structures. Otherwise, the work rolls on as usual with the preparation of skis and a bit different preparation before the season kicks off.

Hard work

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Do you think that waxing is difficult and complicated? The mystery of a successful waxing is to work systematically, keeping it all simple, and perhaps most important to work hard. If you succeed to fill in these three points, you can almost expect to succeed with a competition waxing.

If you have any questions about waxing leave a comment and we’ll try to answer your question!

Testing can start!

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Now you can really go skiing! A-Team goes to Bruksvallarna for a ten-day camp today. The conditions which is to be first class for a snow camp in October with 3-4 dm of snow and a variety of tracks drawn up.

We’ll also send up Stefan, our glide tester, directly today to check out the situation and to implement a lot of testing there. If there is good test conditions we will possibly send more waxers to join a little later in the week. Being able to begin testing new skis so early would mean that we are well placed before the first World Cup in Norway !

WAX ON!

These are busy days for the waxing staff of the Swedish national XC team. The start of the cross-country ski season is just weeks away and the staff is currently performing a great number of equipment tests. Among many other things, the seven staff members try out loads of new skis and ski structures as well as new waxes and wax compositions.

During October you will be able to follow the daily life and busy work of the Swedish XC waxing staff here at our website. The staff members will provide you with a behind-the-scene look of their work and most surely give you some waxing advice as well.
