Team Saxo Bank made a thorough mark on the Belgian classic and in the breathtaking finale towards the Wall of Huy Andy Schleck was close to getting the biggest victory of his career. Italian Davide Rebellin (Diquigiovanni-Seramenti) was the fastest man on the final meters and took the victory ahead of Schleck and Damiano Cunego (Lampre).

Previously with 40 kilomtres to go, it was Team Saxo Bank that opened the finale when first Lasse Bøchman put a severe pressure on the field and then Chris Anker Sørensen and Jakob Fuglsang launched a series of attacks. The peloton was thoroughly fragmented towards the finish and the Danish team had Karsten Kroon in the last attack before the main group of favorites assembled at the foot of the notorious climb in Huy.

As Nicki Sørensen led the way, Cadel Evans fractured the group with a huge effort and final attempt to win but in the end it was a duel between Davide Rebellin and Andy Schleck.
